Instructions
👩🍳 STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
1. Prepare the Apples
-
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
- Peel, core, and slice apples into 1/4-inch slices (about 6 cups).
-
- In a large bowl, combine:
-
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
-
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
-
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
-
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
-
- 2 tbsp flour
-
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
-
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
-
- In a large bowl, combine:
-
- Add the apples and toss until every slice is coated and glossy.
-
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
-
- Drizzle 2 tbsp melted butter over the apples.
2. Make the Cobbler Topping
-
- In a medium bowl, whisk together:
-
- 1 1/4 cups flour
-
- 1/2 cup sugar
-
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
-
- 1/4 tsp salt
-
- In a medium bowl, whisk together:
-
- Pour in the milk and melted butter.
-
- Stir until the batter is smooth and thick but pourable — like pancake batter.
-
- Spoon the batter over the apples in rustic dollops.
-
- Don’t try to cover every corner — the gaps allow the apples to bubble through.
-
- Sprinkle with coarse sugar if you want extra crunch.
3. Bake
-
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
-
- If the top browns too quickly, loosely tent with foil.
-
- Let cool 10–15 minutes so the filling can thicken.
4. Serve
Best served warm with:
-
- Vanilla ice cream
-
- Fresh whipped cream
-
- A drizzle of caramel
