Instructions
Instructions:
- Preheat Your Oven:
- Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). This ensures that the oven is hot enough when you’re ready to bake the sausage rolls.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the Italian sausage meat, grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, chopped fresh parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Using your hands or a spoon, mix everything together until well combined. This ensures that the flavors are evenly distributed throughout the sausage mixture.
- Prepare the Pastry:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets if needed to ensure they are smooth.
- Cut each sheet in half lengthwise, resulting in four long strips. This will be used to encase the sausage mixture.
- Fill the Pastry:
- Divide the sausage mixture into four equal parts.
- Take one portion of the sausage and shape it into a long log along one edge of a puff pastry strip. Make sure it’s even in thickness for consistent cooking.
- Roll and Seal:
- Roll the pastry over the sausage to enclose it completely.
- Use a little of the beaten egg to brush along the pastry edge to help seal it shut. Press down gently to ensure it sticks.
- Slice into Rolls:
- Once sealed, cut each pastry log into smaller, bite-sized pieces, roughly 2 inches each. This size is perfect for appetizers.
- Prepare for Baking:
- Place the cut sausage rolls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are seam-side down to prevent them from unrolling during baking.
- Brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg to give them a lovely golden color upon baking.
- Garnish (Optional):
- If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds over the tops of the sausage rolls for added texture and flavor.
- Bake:
- Put the baking sheet into your preheated oven and bake the sausage rolls for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown. Ensure the sausage is cooked through by checking that the internal temperature has reached 160°F (71°C).
- Cool and Serve:
- Once baked, remove the sausage rolls from the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack for a few minutes.
- Serve warm, as is, or with your favorite dipping sauce like marinara or mustard.
