  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

    • Baguette: 1, preferably whole-grain or multigrain, sliced into 1/4-inch thick pieces.

    • Brie cheese: 8 ounces, rind trimmed and cheese sliced into thin wedges.

    • Pear: 1 large ripe pear, cored and thinly sliced. Bartlett or Anjou pears work well.

    • Honey: 2 tablespoons, for drizzling.

    • Walnuts: 1/4 cup, roughly chopped and toasted.

    • Fresh thyme: 1 teaspoon, leaves removed from stems (optional for garnish).

    • Olive oil: 2 tablespoons, for brushing the baguette slices.

    • Salt and pepper: to taste.

Instructions

Step by Step Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

    • Set your oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to preheat while you prepare the other ingredients.

Step 2: Prepare the Baguette

    • Take one baguette and slice it into approximately 1/4-inch thick pieces. Aim for uniform slices to ensure even toasting.

    • Arrange the baguette slices in a single layer on a baking sheet.

Step 3: Brush with Olive Oil

    • Brush each slice with olive oil using a pastry brush. This will help them toast to a golden color and add flavor.

Step 4: Toast the Baguette Slices

    • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the slices for about 5–7 minutes until they are lightly toasted and crisp.

    • Keep a close eye on them to prevent over-toasting.

Step 5: Prepare the Brie

    • While the baguette is toasting, trim the rind from an 8-ounce wedge of Brie cheese, if desired (some people prefer to leave it on).

    • Slice the Brie into thin wedges that will fit on top of the baguette slices.

Step 6: Slice the Pear

    • Core and thinly slice one large ripe pear (such as Bartlett or Anjou) into slices that will comfortably fit on top of the Brie-covered baguette.

Step 7: Toast the Walnuts

    • Roughly chop 1/4 cup of walnuts and toast them in a dry skillet over medium heat for a few minutes until fragrant. Stir frequently to avoid burning and set aside.

Step 8: Assemble the Crostini

    • Remove the toasted baguette slices from the oven and top each slice with a wedge of Brie.

    • Place the baking sheet back in the oven for about 3–5 minutes, or until the Brie begins to melt slightly.

Step 9: Top with Pear Slices

    • Remove the baking sheet from the oven once again and carefully place a slice of pear over each piece of melted Brie.

Step 10: Add Toppings

    • Drizzle with Honey: Use approximately 2 tablespoons of honey to drizzle over the pear and Brie layers.

    • Sprinkle with Toasted Walnuts: Evenly distribute the toasted walnuts on top of each crostini.

    • Season with Salt and Pepper: Lightly sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Step 11: Garnish and Serve

    • Optionally, garnish with fresh thyme leaves, which can enhance the flavor and presentation.

    • Arrange the crostinis on a serving platter and serve them warm for the best taste and texture.
