Instructions
Step by Step Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
-
- Set your oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to preheat while you prepare the other ingredients.
Step 2: Prepare the Baguette
-
- Take one baguette and slice it into approximately 1/4-inch thick pieces. Aim for uniform slices to ensure even toasting.
-
- Arrange the baguette slices in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Step 3: Brush with Olive Oil
-
- Brush each slice with olive oil using a pastry brush. This will help them toast to a golden color and add flavor.
Step 4: Toast the Baguette Slices
-
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the slices for about 5–7 minutes until they are lightly toasted and crisp.
-
- Keep a close eye on them to prevent over-toasting.
Step 5: Prepare the Brie
-
- While the baguette is toasting, trim the rind from an 8-ounce wedge of Brie cheese, if desired (some people prefer to leave it on).
-
- Slice the Brie into thin wedges that will fit on top of the baguette slices.
Step 6: Slice the Pear
-
- Core and thinly slice one large ripe pear (such as Bartlett or Anjou) into slices that will comfortably fit on top of the Brie-covered baguette.
Step 7: Toast the Walnuts
-
- Roughly chop 1/4 cup of walnuts and toast them in a dry skillet over medium heat for a few minutes until fragrant. Stir frequently to avoid burning and set aside.
Step 8: Assemble the Crostini
-
- Remove the toasted baguette slices from the oven and top each slice with a wedge of Brie.
-
- Place the baking sheet back in the oven for about 3–5 minutes, or until the Brie begins to melt slightly.
Step 9: Top with Pear Slices
-
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven once again and carefully place a slice of pear over each piece of melted Brie.
Step 10: Add Toppings
-
- Drizzle with Honey: Use approximately 2 tablespoons of honey to drizzle over the pear and Brie layers.
-
- Sprinkle with Toasted Walnuts: Evenly distribute the toasted walnuts on top of each crostini.
-
- Season with Salt and Pepper: Lightly sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Step 11: Garnish and Serve
-
- Optionally, garnish with fresh thyme leaves, which can enhance the flavor and presentation.
-
- Arrange the crostinis on a serving platter and serve them warm for the best taste and texture.
