Instructions
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
1 Preheat your oven to the temperature recommended on the puff pastry package (usually around 400°F or 200°C).
Step 2: Prepare the Puff Pastry
1 Remove the puff pastry sheet from the freezer and allow it to thaw in the refrigerator for about 1-2 hours or at room temperature for about 30 minutes until pliable.
2 Once thawed, lightly flour your countertop (or use gluten-free flour if making a gluten-free version) and roll out the puff pastry sheet gently using a rolling pin to about 1/8 inch thick in a rectangular shape. Aim for a rectangle that measures approximately 12 x 8 inches.
Step 3: Prepare the Cheese Filling
1 In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and Greek yogurt.
2 Add the honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, lemon juice (if using), and cinnamon (if using). Mix well with a spoon or hand mixer until smooth and creamy. Adjust sweetness if necessary by adding more honey or maple syrup.
Step 4: Assemble the Danish
1 Using a sharp knife, score a small border about 1 inch from the edges of the puff pastry rectangle. This will help the edges puff up and create a border while baking.
2 Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly within the scored rectangle, leaving the border clear.
3 Top the cream cheese mixture with the fresh or frozen blueberries, distributing them evenly over the filling.
Step 5: Brush with Egg Wash (Optional)
1 In a small bowl, beat the egg to create an egg wash. Using a pastry brush, gently brush the edges of the pastry border with the egg wash for a nice golden color when baked. If you prefer not to use egg, you can skip this step.
Step 6: Bake
1 Carefully transfer the assembled Danish onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
2 Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
Step 7: Cool and Serve
1 Remove the Danish from the oven and let it cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before slicing it into rectangular pieces.
2 Serve warm or at room temperature. You can drizzle additional honey or icing (made from powdered sugar and milk) on top if desired.
