Instructions
Instructions:
-
Preheat the Broiler:
- Start by turning on your oven's broiler according to the manufacturer's directions. Typically, this involves selecting the broil setting and allowing the broiler to heat up for about 5-10 minutes.
-
Prepare the Sugar and Cinnamon Mixture:
- In a small mixing bowl, combine:
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- Stir the two ingredients together until they are well combined. Set aside for later use.
- In a small mixing bowl, combine:
-
Prepare the Grapefruits:
- Using a sharp knife, carefully cut each grapefruit in half horizontally to create two halves.
- Use a spoon to gently scoop out a small bit of the flesh from each half (if desired) to create more space for the topping and to enhance the broiling.
-
Arrange on the Baking Sheet:
- Place the grapefruit halves cut-side up on a baking sheet. Make sure they are spaced out to allow heat to circulate around them for even cooking.
-
Brush with Honey:
- Using a pastry brush or a spoon, drizzle about 2 tablespoons of honey over the cut surfaces of each grapefruit half. Ensure that the honey covers the grapefruit evenly.
-
Add the Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Mixture:
- Evenly sprinkle the prepared brown sugar and cinnamon mixture over the honey-drizzled grapefruit halves. Make sure to cover the tops sufficiently for a nice caramelized topping.
-
Broil the Grapefruit:
- Carefully place the baking sheet under the preheated broiler. Broil the grapefruit for approximately 8-10 minutes, keeping a close eye on them as broilers can vary in intensity. Your goal is to achieve a golden caramelized appearance and for the grapefruit to become juicy.
-
Check for Doneness:
- After about 8 minutes, check the grapefruit. If they’re golden brown and slightly bubbling, they are ready. If they're not quite there, continue broiling for another minute or two but watch closely to prevent burning.
-
Remove from the Oven:
- Using oven mitts, carefully take the baking sheet out of the oven. Allow the grapefruit to cool for a few minutes; they will be very hot.
-
Serve:
- Once slightly cooled, transfer the broiled grapefruit halves to serving plates.
- Serve warm alongside a dollop of Greek yogurt and a sprinkle of granola for added crunch and flavor.
-
Enjoy:
- Dig in and enjoy the sweet and tangy flavors of the broiled grapefruit, complemented with the creaminess of Greek yogurt and the crunchy texture of granola.
