Ingredients
Ingredients for Instant Pot Blueberry Maple Compote
- 3 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- ¼ cup real maple syrup (pure maple syrup preferred)
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
Gather fresh or frozen blueberries, real maple syrup, fresh lemon juice, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt. Using fresh or frozen blueberries is fine, but fresh will yield the brightest flavor. Make sure your maple syrup is pure for the best natural sweetness.
Place the 3 cups of blueberries into the Instant Pot’s inner cooking pot. Pour in ¼ cup of real maple syrup to sweeten naturally. Add 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to balance the sweetness with a hint of tartness. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for warmth and aroma. Finally, sprinkle ¼ teaspoon salt to enhance all flavors.
Gently stir all ingredients together inside the Instant Pot. This ensures even distribution of flavors and prevents any clumps, helping your blueberry maple compote cook evenly.
Close the Instant Pot lid securely and lock it into place. Turn the pressure valve to the “Sealing” position to prepare for pressure cooking. Press the “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” button, then adjust the pressure setting to High. Set the cooking time to 3 minutes.
After a few seconds, the Instant Pot will begin building pressure automatically. Once it reaches full pressure, it will start counting down the 3-minute cooking time. During this period, the blueberries will soften and release their natural juices, combining with the maple syrup and spices to create a flavorful compote.
When the 3-minute cooking time is complete, turn off the Instant Pot to avoid overcooking or scorching the compote. Let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes — this gradual pressure release allows the flavors to fully develop and prevents splattering.
After 10 minutes of natural release, carefully move the pressure valve to the “Venting” position to release any remaining steam. Use caution to avoid burns from the hot steam.
If you prefer a thicker, jam-like texture, press the “Sauté” button on the Instant Pot and cook over high heat. Stir constantly to reduce excess liquid until the compote reaches your desired consistency. Turn off the Instant Pot once thickened.
Allow the Instant Pot Blueberry Maple Compote to cool slightly before serving. You can enjoy it warm over pancakes, yogurt, or desserts. Alternatively, transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate — it will keep fresh for 7 to 10 days.
