What is Coconut Aminos?
Coconut aminos is a savory sauce made from coconut sap and sea salt. It's similar in taste to soy sauce, but without soybeans or gluten. Some people use coconut aminos as a vegan or Paleo-friendly alternative to soy sauce. Others simply enjoy its unique flavor. Coconut aminos can be used in all sorts of recipes, from stir-fries to marinades. It's also a great way to add flavor to roasted vegetables or grilled meats. If you're looking for a new ingredient to experiment with in the kitchen, coconut aminos is definitely worth trying. Who knows, it might just become your new favorite condiment!
This was inspired by my other recipe on this site, and pairs well with this amazing sidedish recipe.

Ingredients
- Ingredients
- 2 lbs. chicken drumsticks
½ c. balsamic vinegar
3 T. extra virgin olive oil
3 T. coconut aminos
½ c. organic chicken stock
½ t. crushed red pepper flakes
3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
Salt and pepper, to taste
3 green onions, sliced
Instructions
Directions
Pat chicken drumsticks dry with a paper towel and place in a large, sealable plastic bag. Set aside.
In a medium glass or another non-reactive bowl, whisk the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, coconut aminos, chicken stock, red pepper flakes, and minced garlic together. Season with salt and pepper, if desired.
Pour one-half of the balsamic marinade over the chicken and seal the bag tightly. Turn the bag over until the chicken is coated. Place the bag in the refrigerator for a minimum of 30 minutes to overnight. Reserve the remaining marinade to use later.
When ready to prepare, preheat the oven to 400° and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Remove drumsticks from the plastic bag and arrange them on a lined baking sheet in a single layer without overcrowding. Discard the remaining marinade inside the bag.
- Place baking sheet in preheated oven for 30 minutes, then remove chicken from oven and turn each drumstick. After turning, brush the tops of each drumstick with the remaining marinade and return to the oven. Bake for another 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is well done and the outside has caramelized.
Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Transfer drumsticks to a serving dish and sprinkle with sliced green onions before serving.
Substitutions
Balsamic Glazed Chicken Drumsticks is a delicious and easy recipe that can be made with just a few ingredients. However, if you don't have all of the ingredients on hand, there are some substitutions that you can make.
For the balsamic vinegar, you can use any type of vinegar, such as white vinegar or apple cider vinegar.
If you don't have coconut aminos, you can use soy sauce or tamari (tamari is a gluten-free option). You can also try Liquid Aminos.
And for the chicken, you can use chicken breasts or thighs.
With these substitutions, you can easily make Balsamic Glazed Chicken Drumsticks even if you don't have all of the ingredients on hand.
