Paul Prudhomme, the Cajun prince of Creole cuisine, was born on July 13, 1940 in Louisiana. From a young age, he loved to cook and was always in the kitchen with his mom and grandmother. After spending time in the Army and traveling the world, Prudhomme returned home to Louisiana and opened his first restaurant, K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen, in 1979. His inventive dishes soon made him one of America's most renowned chefs. Today, at 74 years old, Prudhomme is still cooking up delicious dishes at his New Orleans eatery—and inspiring a new generation of chefs along the way.
